Density: Saltwater Vs Fresh water

Floating on salt water and fresh water

Here is the article on Density

Is Salt water denser than fresh water?

When comparing the density or salt water and fresh water we have to consider both the mass and the volume.

When is dissolved in water, as it is in ocean water, that dissolved salt adds to the mass of the water and makes the water denser than it would be without salt. And knowing objects float better on a dense surface, they float better on salt water than fresh water.

Example
When a ship sails from saltwater into fresh water, the fraction of its volume above the water is?

(A) remain the same.
(B) increase.
(C) decrease.
(D) increase then decrease.

Explanation

Since it has been explained that objects float better on salt water than fresh water. It means the mass of salt water is greater than the mass of fresh water. Therefore, the fraction of its volume will increase.
